2. Must have 10Mbit or more of available Internet bandwidth.

Can I get a copy of the server code?

AnotherNet IRC uses Hyperion 1.0.x and Theia services. Both are freely available from Freenode (http://www.freenode.net/). AnotherNet-specific modifications to Hyperion & Theia are available here on our web site.

Who pays for AnotherNet's services?

AnotherNet is an organization under Silicon Dairy, LLC., an Internet Service Provider located in South Burlington, Vermont. Our bandwidth and servers (with the exception of linked servers) are hosted and provided by them.

AnotherNet Chat Staff are made up of volunteers who strongly believe in our mission to provide a family-safe environment.

Can I use DCC chat and file transfers on AnotherNet Chat?

Yes. DCC chat and file transfer requests are not blocked. However, AnotherNet strongly urges users to limit DCC file transfer traffic on the network. Sending a DCC request to another user on any IRC-based network identifies your internet address to that user. If you're going to use DCC, you should make sure you trust the person you're sending to.

Receiving files via DCC can also be dangerous. With the rampant spread of Viruses and Spyware on IRC networks, you can never be too careful. Be sure you have an up-to-date Antivirus and Anti-Spyware application installed on your computer.

How do I sign-up?

There's no need to register or sign-up to use AnotherNet's IRC network. Simply download an IRC client, or use our Java Client, and connect to irc://irc.another.org/

Are you the same AnotherNet from the 1990s?

Yes! AnotherNet was formerly known as "AnotherNet IRC" from January 1995 until March 1998. AnotherNet IRC was a very popular alternative family-oriented chat network. Unfortunately, constant attacks on the network caused us to close down until February 1999. Durning the downtime, we switched our focus to corporate messaging, telephony, secure conferencing, and VOIP services.
